Quick, grab a pen. I’ll wait. Okay, jot this down: November 3 – 7. That’s when the Vegas Valley Book Festival will take over the Historic Fifth Street School (actually located on 4th Street) and the Clark County Library (actually located in Clark County), among other venues. Now in its ninth year, the festival has become one of the biggest book events in the West. This year’s keynote speakers are T.C. Boyle and Dennis Lehane, a couple of guys with serious writing chops. The festival also features panel discussions, writers’ workshops, a comic book display, author readings, film screenings and lots of family-friendly stuff.
I’ll be hanging around (or as my co-workers like to call it, “lurking”) all five days. On Saturday morning from 10:00 – 11:15, I’m co- presenting a memoir workshop with Carolyn Uber, publisher of Stephens Press. Then at 1:30, I’m going to make some friends by handing out awards to the winners of the Flash Fiction contest. (I’ll post the three winning stories on my next blog.)
As we say in the ad biz, admission is absolutely free. Ample parking in rear (and in front). And if you act now, we’ll throw in a cheese straightener at no additional charge. The deluxe model, too. (That last part’s a lie. I lifted it from an old George Carlin routine.)
For more info and a complete schedule of events, go to www.vegasvalleybookfestival.org. I look forward to bumping into you there. But not in the parking lot.
