The Old Man and a Smile

My wife and I had a fun time yesterday watching “The Old Man and a Gun,” Robert Redford’s latest, and possibly last, film. It’s a congenial, leisurely stroll through a mostly true story about a gentleman bank robber who truly loves his work. Redford and co-star Sissy Spacek warm the screen, as does an eclectic cast of veterans that includes Danny Glover and Tom Waits, who bring dimensionality to their supporting roles (no matter how small). Be sure to keep an eye out for the affectionate nods to Redford’s career, especially the well-placed clips from previous films used in service of this tale. If this is indeed the old man’s last hurrah as an actor, he’s going out on a high note, with movie star hair and million watt smile intact.
